Words Appearing 50x or more

Thanks for visiting Biblical-Hebrew.org. We are currently undergoing some renovation as we work to provide users with FREE online learning aids. Currently we are working on providing Vocabulary aids. At first the goal is to provide every word that appears 50 times or more in the Hebrew Bible. These will be 27 units, each composed of about 25 words. The most common words are located in the first set, the least common words are located in last set. This allows students to focus on the most common vocabulary first. Each unit has 3 parts: English-Hebrew, Hebrew-English, and Mixed. Each 25 word unit (Heb-Eng and Eng-Heb) should take about 2 minutes to accomplish.

There are also 7 review units each containing 100 words. The review units should take less than 10 minutes. Put another way: Once you have learned every word that appears 50 times or more in the Hebrew Bible you can stay up to date and fresh on review with 10 minutes of review every day.

Why is learning every word 50 times or more important? Besides vocabulary aquisition being the most important--and often difficult--part of learning a language, learning these words is vital to make use of reading aids that will get you into the text of the Bible and therefor immerse yourself much more naturally into the language. Yet this cannot be done without a strong vocabulary base and a working knowledge of grammar. Specifically, once you have mastered every word that appears 50 times or more these aids will become of immediate use to allow enjoyable reading of the Hebrew Bible:

1. A Reader's Hebrew-English Lexicon of the Old Testament. This aid lists every word, verse by verse, that does not appear 50 times or more. Once you have mastered the core vocabulary of the Hebrew Bible this book allows you to begin reading large portions of the Hebrew Bible. This aids in retention, allows the student to enjoy the Hebrew they have learned, and opens the door to learn Hebrew more intuitively by the act of reading.

2. Old Testament Parsing Guide. This volume is an aid that lists every verb in the Hebrew Bible. Verse by verse this tool parses the verb and gives the meaning while referring the student to the appropriate listings in BDB and KB.

In the future we hope to provide more FREE Flash Card aids to assist students in memorization of the Verb Paradigms, Numbers, Adjectives, and so forth. We also aspire to provide quizes keyed to a popular grammar.
